Welcome to Dartmoor
In Dartmoor we C.A.N. be kind, considerate and anything we dare to dream!
In our class we have 25, Year 6 pupils. We are strong friends and understand the value of mutual respect and kindness. We work hard together to help each other do well in school and feel a strong part of our class group.
We have many favourite subjects but two that come up most often are Science and Maths. In particular, we like the practical elements of Science – doing experiments every Thursday afternoon really helps us to understand the world around us and how it works. Quite a few of us enjoy Art. We find it relaxing and, although some of us find it hard, we persevere and make sure we improve our outcomes!
What pupils say about our class
Our class was newly developed in January 2021. It brings together friendship groups from the year group which were originally split at the start of the year. We were all very excited to be coming back together to create the Dartmoor class bubble!
Lockdown has been hard for us but we have been thinking of some inspiring messages we could give to you to keep you motivated every day!
Jimmy says it is important to “keep doing what your doing”.
Hope says, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn”.
A’alayah reminds you: “No matter where you are no matter the time a rainbow will appear and light you, your way.”
Harry tells us, “the key to success is to start when you’re ready”.
All about our Class Teacher’s Mrs Caine and Mr Harman
I am Mrs Caine the Deputy Head Teacher at Chilton Academy. I teach some subjects in Dartmoor along with Mr Harman and Mrs Dodsworth. My favourite subject to teach is English. I love getting lost in a book and helping children to use their imagination to write creative outcomes. At school, my favourite subject was Art – I even sold some of my artwork when I was at University. I think having a passion is so important as it helps you stay strong and Art for me has got me through times when I may have been feeling sad or lonely.
I have two young sons. Noah is 6 and Henry 4 and they both keep me on my toes! They love to be out and about getting dirty. In fact, I think they come out of a bath dirtier than when they went in – I don’t know how they manage it!! My husband is called James and he fixes computers for a living (including mine when it breaks).
In my spare time, we like to go for walks and to the beach. We have a cocker spaniel (Bentley) so he keeps us active. We also have 2 cats, but they spend more time sleeping than awake!
My name is Mr Harman. After over 10 years as a Teaching Assistant and Houseparent in a boarding school, I completed my teacher training at Chilton Academy in 2020. I enjoyed it so much that I came back! The thing that I like most about Chilton Academy is that the children are always willing to attempt new challenges and are willing to learn from their mistakes. Within the classroom, I aim to help children grow both academically and as individuals. My favourite subject to teach is PSHE as it helps us understand our rights and how we can make a positive impact on our world.
Outside of school, I am very interested in reading, particularly about psychology. I enjoy meeting with friends, eating Nandos and watching medical or crime dramas. In the summer, I work on a cruise ship, which means I get to travel the world. My favourite beverage on a sunny day is an ice-cold can of Pepsi Max.
